If so, having a dedicated regular session of additional tuition, can really help.  I provide 1:1 in person sessions which focus on the foundation of reading: phonics. Have a look at the section 'What will my child do in a session' to find out more.

 

There are many strands to make an efficient reader and writer and it is important to establish which strands are weaker and work on strengthening them.  The area that phonics strengthens is the area called 'word recognition' (which includes phonological awareness, decoding and sight recognition) which you can see in this image on the bottom left.

Support with the Phonics Screening Check 

In Year 1 nationally, children take a statutory assessment called the 'Phonics Screening Check' (PSC).  This is done in your child's setting by a familiar adult.  It will be also be repeated in Year 2 for any children who didn't reach the pass mark.

 

I can support your learner to prepare for this check, in a fun way, to give them the confidence,  skills and knowledge needed.

 

I have many years experience within schools preparing and supporting  classes of children for this check and administering it to them.  I have always had very high success rates (recently I had a class of 30 with 100% pass rate).

What is the duration of each tutoring session?

Sessions are usually 60 minutes and designed to maximise learning while keeping the student engaged and motivated.

For younger learners or learners who need short bursts of teaching, there will be plenty of brain breaks and multisensory of physical activities.

Options for 30 minutes and 45 minutes are also available. See more information here

Where do the tutoring sessions take place?

In our garden office at my home in Bradford on Avon.

How much is it?

1 hour is £35.00. 

45 minutes is £28.50

30 minutes is £20.00

I book in 4 week blocks and this must be paid in advance of the sessions.  Pricing

 

What safeguarding is there?

As a carer for your child you will want to make sure that they are safe in my care. I have an enhanced DBS certificate and am on the update service which means that this keeps up to date.  You are very welcome to request to see this.  I can also provide you with personal references if you would like to request these from me.

I am first aid trained.  If there is anything medical that I need to know regarding your child (allergies, inhalers, epi pens etc) please inform me of these before your child starts. I have a form you can fill in.
